The main thing I find people packing far too much of is mainly clothes/shoes and electronics.Seen so many people with giant brick chargers for their phones or 5 pairs of jeans which are extremely bulky.

I always take a spork with me, as well as carabiners and little crocodile clips, super helpful if you're staying in a hostel and you want to put up a towel to give you a bit of privacy or to keep the curtains together in the airbnb. Also Ziploc bags, so helpful.

I had problem withdrawing money in ATM in Greece with my usual debit card. I contacted my bank and they said there was no problem with the card itself. However, it did not work. My solution : first I paid off my credit card balance using my bank app, and then the next day, I used my credit card to have a cash advance. This worked well. I used this trick twice now.

Making walking trips is wonderful! It's amazing (i.e.dumb) that you can't do that in Maps itself. In Maps you can only have multiple stops for driving but not for walking. Any way to hide all the location pins that appear on My Maps? They really clutter things ups. That's one thing you can do pretty well on Maps itself. thanks!

My only caveat to the toiletries is in your toiletries aren't on the "mainstream" aisle. They might not carry what you need in other countries. And bring your preferred feminine products for the same reason.

Yeah, I've found that nothing I do will stop an enhanced search at RDU. Every time I go through they wind up going through my bags and swabbing my hands and cane handle repeatedly. All I can figure is that their scanners are so sensitive that the residue left as a licensed CCW sets them off, even after 24 hours without handling the EDC firearm, at least one shower, and cleaning my cane. This only happens at RDU. Even the scanners at Seoul don't blip at me.

I'm retired and travel a lot. I use Google flights all the time AND travel as you suggest, flight first, then dates. It works great!! Even so, this brought new ideas to me that I'll use. One added suggestion I use all the time is the "Price Graph". Once I've determined everything else, I use this to see a simple bar graph showing the difference in prices from one day across a few weeks. It, also, allows in-graph changes to days and extended time.

Great video - all the important tips! It amazes me the wide discrepancy in financial systems among the countries of the world. To me, North America (ex. Mexico) and Europe are truly the easiest. The smallest store - heck, even ice cream trucks and food trucks will accept credit cards. I traveled to Scandinavia last year, and didn't even bother getting local cash at all. Next level up in difficulty (but still not difficult) are the majority countries today where most small-to-medium size stores and restaurants still expect cash - but luckily, they've also got ATM's pretty much everywhere. This is where a debit/ATM card that won't charge you a fee (e.g. Capital One) -- or better yet will even refund any fees you incur at foreign ATM's (e.g. Charles Schwab) really shine. The hardest are countries under our US sanctions (Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, etc.) - where none of our cards will work and we have to work out our entire trip expense and bring in the total with us in USD or Euros - and hope we won't overspend! Luckily, most all countries on the US sanctions list are also the ones most eager to exchange for our US dollars.

Jumping in late... I am not a minimalist. I like my creature comforts and I pack a water-heating coil, along with packets of tea and 3-in-1 coffee. I travel (hosteling) twice each year, 2-3 months at a time. Some hostels provide tea/coffee, but not all. I also carry a USB-rechargeable UV water purifier. I cannot even fathom the idea of buying/discarding plastic bottles daily for months on end. But all my gear pieces fit easily inside a 20L 'personal item' day pack, with 9 lbs (4 kg) total weight. Actually, my pack is only about 2/3rd full - so plenty more space to add snacks (or the occasional souvenir) along the way. Meals and shelters aside, I have everything I need/want for 'indefinite' travels to anywhere 32F / 0C and up. And if I plan on visiting truly cold places in winter, it's just another pound or two for a heavier jacket, gloves and socks. This day and age, more and more airlines are charging extra even for carry on's - allowing only a 'personal item' bag. But one can still travel very comfortably and very easily - yes, wearing clean clothes too - without need for 40L, 30L, or even 25L backpacks. Why do you need 4 underwear or 4 of any other clothing type? Have you EVER worn two undies or two tees or two pairs of pants together - ever? Really, all you ever need are two outfits - wicking, quick drying, no ironing - one on you and the other in your pack. Mix and match give you 4 different outfits right there. To that, add a shell layer and an insulation layer. Plus an umbrella and a bandana of sorts. That's it. Wash at night and they're dry by morning. Then add your toiletry kit, small first-aid kit, a pair of flip flops (for hotel / beach wear) and various misc. pieces - and you're good to go. I am sure "true minimalists" can easily go even lighter. But as mentioned, I am not one of them. My interest isn't to break any 'light weight' record. I just want a versatile system that can get me on any budget airline w/o need to pay extra - and allow me to travel indefinitely to pretty much anywhere, anytime. Very doable, actually.

I was 100% against neck pillows because it is extremely unlikely that I could ever stand something around my neck. Then I started flying with Frontier and only taking a personal item. Now I have a neck pillow that unzips and I can stuff it full of a lot of clothes and therefore give myself space in my personal item for other stuff. Also my cargo pants fits a tablet to read books on, or do most of the things that you would use a laptop for.

This is great, I think, if your only real consideration is getting the cheapest flight possible. But there are other things equally important to me that oftentimes aren't addressed in these types of vlogs - such as departure times, arrival times, and duration of flights. I am not interested in departing at 5am, sitting in a layover airport for 12 hours, and arriving at my final destination at midnight, all for what would otherwise be a 6 hour direct flight, just to save myself $100. I'll gladly pay the extra $100.
